CGCC Writing Club Celebrates Pride Week with two renowned poets

From Columbia Gorge Community College Creative Writing Club:

June is Pride month, and we are celebrating at Columbia Gorge Community College from June 6-9th. The Creative Writing Club is hosting a poetry event to kick off campus Pride week. We hope you can join us for this free event, planned in cooperation with the EQUAL club and with support from ASG.

The details:

  • When: Monday, June 6th from 6-7 p.m.

  • Where: The Dalles Campus. Lecture Hall, Building 2

  • What: We have two poets visiting, Christina Vega and Lydia Valentine. Each poet will read for about 15 minutes, then we will open up for a Q&A and discussion with CGCC faculty Tina Ontiveros.

  • Bonus: With generous support from the ASG, we have been able to purchase books from each author's publisher. We will give free books away until they are gone. After the reading, the poets will sign books and visit with audience members.

About the poets:

Christina Vega

Christina Vega

Christina Vega (they/them) is a Queer Chicana poet from New Mexico. They're the publisher at Blue Cactus Press and author of a poetry collection, Still Clutching Maps. Christina believes we have the power to reshape our communities with principles of Emergent Strategy, transformative justice, and collective laboring of love. They believe revolution starts at home.

Lydia Valentine

Lydia Valentine

Lydia Valentine (she/her) is a poet, playwright, editor & educator, director & dramaturg who seeks to amplify the voices of the stifled, ignored, and marginalized through her work. Lydia is the 2021-2023 City of Tacoma Poet Laureate and author of Brief Black Candles.
